As a photographer in Prescott, Arizona, I’m often asked about the best time to book fall photo sessions. While many people think of November for autumn pictures, I’m here to let you in on a little secret: September and October are actually the best months for capturing gorgeous photos in Prescott!

Photo taken in September in Prescott, AZ

While late October brings the fall foliage, booking your session in September or early October has some hidden perks:

  • Ideal Weather: Enjoy shoot-perfect weather in the high 60s or low 70s. No chilly noses here!
  • Beautiful light: The softer, golden light of early autumn creates a magical atmosphere for photos.
  • Less Crowded Locations: By booking early, you’ll beat the rush of last-minute holiday photo seekers, giving us more flexibility with locations and times.
  • Nap-Friendly Timing: September’s later sunsets mean we can start shoots a bit later. Perfect for those kiddos who need their afternoon naps! You’ll have more time to prepare and your little ones will be well-rested for the photo shoot.

“But isn’t September too early for holiday cards?”

I hear you, but trust me on this one. Getting your photos done in September or early October is like giving yourself an early holiday gift:

  1. Get Ahead of the Game: By having your photos done early, you can cross one major item off your long holiday to-do list.
  2. Avoid the Rush: You’ll beat the holiday card rush at the printers, ensuring your cards arrive in plenty of time.
  3. Beat the Printing Rush: No nail-biting while waiting for your cards to arrive.
  4. Stress? What Stress?: Imagine addressing your holiday cards while everyone else is still planning their photos. Bliss!

Whether timing or weather are most important to you, there’s something for everyone!

Fall Foliage:

While early fall offers great photo opportunities, it’s worth noting that the best time for peak fall foliage in Prescott is typically the last week of October or the first week of November. Our fall colors might not be as vibrant as the east coast, but during this period, you’ll see the most autumn colors throughout the area.

So, if you’re thinking about fall photos in Prescott, don’t wait! September and early October slots are perfect for those wanting to get a head start on holiday preparations. These time slots fill up quickly, so book your session now ( bookings open July 15) to capture the beauty of Prescott’s autumn and get a jump on your holiday planning.
